13 Tips for a Safe Halloween

The ghosts and goblins are once again getting ready to have some spooky fun throughout Lee’s Summit and South Kansas City. Here at Dave Cross Buick GMC, because we treat your family like our family, we want to share our 13 top tips for a “S.A.F.E. H.A.L.L.O.W.E.E.N.”

S. Only use short, soft, and bendable swords, knives, and other accessories.

A. Always walk with a group or an adult. Don’t venture out alone.

F. Fasten reflective tape on costumes, bags, and accessories to make it easier to be seen.

E. Examine treats before you eat. Look for choking hazards and evidence of tampering.

H. Hold a flashlight to make you more visible to cars on dark streets. Don’t run, but walk to houses, and be careful crossing streets.

A. Always make sure make up is safe. Test a small area first before applying. Remove all makeup to avoid eye and skin irritation.

L. Look both ways when crossing the street. Hold an adult’s hand and use marked crosswalks whenever possible.

L. Lower your risk of possible eye injury. Do not wear decorative contact lenses!

O. Only walk on sidewalks. Or, if there’s no sidewalk, walk on the far edge of the road facing traffic so you can see who’s coming.

W. Wear masks, shoes, and costumes that fit correctly to avoid tripping and impaired vision.

E. Eat treats and candies that are store-bought or factory-wrapped. Don’t eat anything that looks homemade, unless it’s from someone you know like a neighbor or relative.

E. Enter homes only with a trusted adult, and only if it’s someone you know, like a friend or relative. Don’t stop at dark houses and never ride with strangers.

N. Never walk close to candles, luminaries (bags with candles inside of them), or any open flame. Always wear costumes that are flame-resistant.

No matter what time of year, we are always concerned about you and your family’s safety. That’s why we’re proud to offer some of the safest and most reliable GM cars and trucks you can buy. The stunning new 2015 Buick Enclave, for example is rated “five stars,” by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as is the sporty 2015 Buick Regal, 2015 Buick Encore, 2015 Buick Verano, 2015 GMC Sierra, and 2015 GMC Acadia.
