Dos and Don’ts of Spring Break Travel: Keeping your home safe while you’re away

If you’re anything like us, you have had it with this brutal winter.  You probably can’t wait to load up the car and head for a warmer destination, right?  Whether you’re lucky enough to have a spring break or you’re just planning a little getaway to a sunny spot, remember that safety is key.

If you want to return to a house that looks exactly the way you left it, follow these tips:
  • Put automatic timer on lights.  You might even want to leave a radio on (preferably a talk radio show) so it sounds like there is someone in your house.
  • Make a record of the serial numbers for your valuable items and take the list with you, store it in your safe deposit box or send the information to your personal email account.
  •  Make sure your friends and relatives know where you will be vacationing. Call friends or family members to let them know that you have arrived and returned safely.

  • DO NOT hide your house keys in a mailbox, under a doormat or planter or anywhere outside.
  • If you are leaving a vehicle at home, DO NOT leave your garage door opener in your vehicle.
  • DO NOT advertise your plans to strangers or on social media outlets.

Don't hit the road without these 3 things in mind!

As we wave goodbye to winter, it's important to take the appropriate defense against the pesky downside of spring: potholes.  Don't hit the road without these 3 things in mind:

Increase following distance: This helps to see potholes that may be ahead and allow time to avoid them. Before swerving to avoid any pothole, check surrounding traffic to ensure this will not cause a collision or endanger nearby pedestrians or cyclists.
Beware of puddles – A puddle can hide a deep pothole, so if you drive through puddles, treat them as though they all are hiding potholes.
Properly inflate tires – A properly inflated tire is more likely to absorb the force of hitting a pothole, where a low tire will transmit the force to the rim. Replacing a tire is much less expensive than replacing a rim!

Of course, if disaster strikes you in the form of a pothole, we've got you covered!  Save big with our Pothole Special.

Dave Cross Buick GMC at the 2014 Taste of Lee's Summit

We were proud to have been present at Lee's Summit Educational Foundation's fundraiser event, the 2014 Taste of Lee's.  The sold-out event was attended by David Cross and his brother Gary, as well as David's sons Chad and Matt; all of which are Lee's Summit High School Alumni.   David's sons Tim and David are also alumni.

Dave Cross Buick GMC  purchased a table for attendance of the fundraiser and donated a goodie bag for the silent auction.  This was the first year our dealership attended and it was a blast!  The most memorable part was seeing all of our friends, family, and local businesses come together to support the school---not to mention the outstanding food!

Needless to say, you can expect to see the Dave Cross Buick GMC family at the Taste of Lee's fundraisers for many years to come!
