13 Tips for a Safe Halloween

The ghosts and goblins are once again getting ready to have some spooky fun throughout Lee’s Summit and South Kansas City. Here at Dave Cross Buick GMC, because we treat your family like our family, we want to share our 13 top tips for a “S.A.F.E. H.A.L.L.O.W.E.E.N.”

S. Only use short, soft, and bendable swords, knives, and other accessories.

A. Always walk with a group or an adult. Don’t venture out alone.

F. Fasten reflective tape on costumes, bags, and accessories to make it easier to be seen.

E. Examine treats before you eat. Look for choking hazards and evidence of tampering.

H. Hold a flashlight to make you more visible to cars on dark streets. Don’t run, but walk to houses, and be careful crossing streets.

A. Always make sure make up is safe. Test a small area first before applying. Remove all makeup to avoid eye and skin irritation.

L. Look both ways when crossing the street. Hold an adult’s hand and use marked crosswalks whenever possible.

L. Lower your risk of possible eye injury. Do not wear decorative contact lenses!

O. Only walk on sidewalks. Or, if there’s no sidewalk, walk on the far edge of the road facing traffic so you can see who’s coming.

W. Wear masks, shoes, and costumes that fit correctly to avoid tripping and impaired vision.

E. Eat treats and candies that are store-bought or factory-wrapped. Don’t eat anything that looks homemade, unless it’s from someone you know like a neighbor or relative.

E. Enter homes only with a trusted adult, and only if it’s someone you know, like a friend or relative. Don’t stop at dark houses and never ride with strangers.

N. Never walk close to candles, luminaries (bags with candles inside of them), or any open flame. Always wear costumes that are flame-resistant.

No matter what time of year, we are always concerned about you and your family’s safety. That’s why we’re proud to offer some of the safest and most reliable GM cars and trucks you can buy. The stunning new 2015 Buick Enclave, for example is rated “five stars,” by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as is the sporty 2015 Buick Regal, 2015 Buick Encore, 2015 Buick Verano, 2015 GMC Sierra, and 2015 GMC Acadia.

5 Accessories Every Buick LaCrosse Owner Should Have

Football season is finally here and that means tailgating parties for many Americans. Now is the time to get your Buick LaCrosse ready for tailgating before the action begins. Since tailgating is all about food, drinks and music, there’s bound to be a mess at some point. Here’s a list of accessories to help keep your Buick clean:

Cargo Tray

Tailgating is fun, but it also comes with its fair share of cleaning up. Instead of dealing with hard to remove carpet stains, why not invest in a premium all-weather cargo tray. The cargo tray fits perfectly onto your Buick’s floors to keep spills from leaking onto the carpet. It’s made with easy to clean materials so you don’t have to worry about spills from leftovers staining your floors.

Front and Rear Premium All-Weather Floor Mats

Keep the interior of your car clean with these all-weather floor mats. The start of the football season also means the beginning of the wet season. These all-weather mats come with a ridged surface that collects rain and mud. This is a great way to keep your interior dry and odor free during the wet season. Also, all-weather mats will come in handy on those rainy days when you carpool your buddies to the football game.

Cargo Organizer

If you are planning on throwing a tailgate party this football season, the cargo organizer is a must have. It will help you keep your tailgating tool kit in order, along with all other essentials. The cargo organizer is easy to handle and comes with different compartments.  It’s designed to fit perfectly in the cargo area and keep various items organized and in place.

Allowing dirt and debris build-up not only deteriorates your Buick’s parts but also diminishes its resale value. These genuine Buick accessories will help you stay organized and keep your car clean. Whether you drive a used 2013 Buick LaCrosse or the all-new 2015 Buick LaCrosse, we have you covered.

4 faux paus you’re probably making when you wash your car

Using Dishwashing Soap.  If you’re constantly struggling with soap scum, take a closer look at the product you’re using!  Be done with Dawn and invest in soap meant for washing cars.

Using the Wrong Cloths. If it’s not microfiber, you’re doing it wrong.

Rolling Down Windows Before They’re Dry.  We’ve got two words for you: water spots.

Over-Washing Your Car.  Yes, there is such a thing.  If you care about preserving your paint job, don’t wash your vehicle obsessively.

Too Hot to Handle - Items You Should Remove from Your Car During the Summer

If you haven’t noticed yet, it’s summer time – temperatures are higher, the sun is out longer, and you’re probably packing all kinds of things in the car which shouldn’t be there once your car’s temperature rises. We’ve all experienced what a disaster melted chocolate can be. Your car’s temperature climbs fast once it’s parked and closed up – it can easily get to over 120 degrees. Here are a few items that shouldn’t still be in the car when it gets that hot.

  • Aerosol cans – they explode!
  • Prescription medications – heat can change their chemical composition.
  • Lighters – they also explode!
  • Electronic devices – heat zaps them faster than you think.
  • CDs and DVDs – they can be damaged or even melted.
  • Sunglasses – heat might warp the frames.
  • Water bottles – chemicals in the plastics used to make the bottle can leach into your water.
  • Crayons – if you’ve ever had to clean wax out of carpet, you’ll be shuddering at the thought of this right now.
  • Makeup, especially chapstick/lipstick – melts. Melts everywhere.
  • Soda cans – have you ever seen one explode? They get sticky soda everywhere.
  • Groceries – unless you’re really into spoiled food for some reason.
  • Chocolate/gum/gummy candy – melty mess!

Break These Bad Driving Habits Now!

Hey, you! Don’t be a bad driver! There are a few behaviors that are especially harmful, and we want you to break these bad habits now. It could save a life, or at the least, save someone from experiencing road rage.

Stop using your cell phone while you’re driving – you got it, no texting or calling. If you absolutely have to make a phone call, at least invest in Bluetooth devices or put it on speaker so you have both hands on the wheel.

Stop cutting people off. You know that driver who cuts across four lanes of traffic because they almost missed their turn? Yeah, don’t be that person. It puts others in danger and is bad for your car.

Plan ahead! And don’t always trust your GPS – those pesky last minute recalculations will get you. It’s safer to simply turn around further up the road.

Don’t tailgate! There should be ample space between you and the driver in front of you in the event that someone needs to make an emergency stop. No one likes getting rear ended.

Learn how to merge. Drivers who don’t know how to merge into another lane smoothly cause some of the worst accidents and pile ups.

The Details of Detailing

Your car is a mess. I mean, a MESS. And you’re thinking about getting it detailed. But what exactly happens when you take your baby in for the full clean? We can offer you a little insight on some of what the service entails.

It starts on the outside. The wheels, tires, doorjambs, bumpers, grilles, anything you can think of that doesn’t count as “interior” gets cleaned spotless first. Then your car gets a facelift with a good polish and buff of the finish – bye bye, bugs! They top it off with a coat of wax, do little touch ups like cleaning the door handles and polishing the glass, and then move on to the interior.

The interior gets a thorough vacuuming – and we mean thorough – which includes taking a brush to the carpets and air vents, and between the seats or other pesky spots. After that, it gets a nice shampooing using a mild cleaning solution, a soft wash mitt, and towels. Sounds kinda nice, right? This shampooing process can knock more dirt loose, so it gets vacuumed again afterward. If you have a fabric interior, the rest gets cleaned with citrus cleaner, which eliminates odors, and a hot water extractor to cut down moisture. If you have a leather interior the detailers will put a liberal amount of leather care product on the seats and allow it to soak in for a bit before wiping all the seats down.
